The big one, or my west coast adventures. Day 6

I liked the rustic motel. I had a good sleep, though, I was so tired, it wouldn't have been difficult to sleep anywhere.  I did have to back track to Cuba, MO today. I also had to fill up the bike.
Then back to route 66. Cuba, MO, has lots of places to see and things to do. I'm glad I rode back.

Just a little too early for lunch.

Perfectly preserved.
As I've said before, either a town goes all out and embraces route 66, or they do nothing. Guess which towns are doing well?
Cuba makes you want to stop.

As you can see,  I'm at the world's largest rocking chair. Another eagle rider group is in the background.  As I would find out later, they cherry pick what they see on Route 66. The rest of their riding was on the interstate.  I can't say it's wrong, but they are missing so much, as I have found.

It's Sunday and lots of things are closed down here.

Anyway back on the road. The farther down southwest I go, the better the road get gets, riding wise.

The mule is a fun and interesting shop. The neon sign at night is cool as it's a mule with its ears going up an down. I passed it last night going to the motel.  Now onto some really cool roads.

Pre interstate highway,  and it's all mine. A really nice piece of road. Both ends curved onto where the interstate was built over/on it.

It seem like it just was a more peaceful and relaxing time.
A outlook where you can overlook the valley.

Bowling and porn, what more than a guy want on a Saturday night ;-).

Now on to Lebanon,  MO. This is where I lost my clutch.  For those with cable operated clutches, you know the feeling,  the lever doesn't return all the way and the clutch is slipping. I do pull over, and whatever luck I have, I end up at a laundry.  Since I've got tons of time, I might as well do a load. Which I had ready to go.

I checked out where the bmw dealers are, booked a motel in town, etc. Not a good day.  But as you get older you learn just to deal with it. I pack up the laundry and get ready to try and get the bike over to the motel. Time to plug in the phone on the bike.  I find its jammed in the mirror hole where I've been storing it. Could it be? I move the clutch lever and it comes out. Could it be that simple?  Lucky me,  yes it was. My clutch is back. The micro end of the cable stopped it from returning. Funny part is, I've put the cable in there 100's of times,  well no more doing that.

Now to cancel the motel room, reserve the new one and back on the road. The one thing that I've noticed is the slow change into cattle country.  Cattle farm's every where, cowboy gifts, and that old blues brothers joke. They play both types of music here, "Country and western" . It's a big change,  and not in a lot of miles.

One of the few states left with cheap smokes. I'm now in Springfield,  MO. I fill up the bike and check in. Dinner at a nice original 80's "Steak & Shake". No pics as I left my phone in the hotel room. I've had enough fun for today.

Total mileage: 1484 miles/ 2388 km
