Finally, Atlantic City

Day 9

Ah, all those memories of work have faded, and it's still too early to worry about going back. So it really is the best time of my vacation, where I just enjoy it.

I wake up early, do the 3's, turn the Bundy's on tv, and head down stairs to get a coffee. Another reason I like Casino's is their selection of Coffee and espresso's. So I treat myself to a latte, and watch the sun come up over Atlantic City. Also finishing off yesterdays blog and proofreading (well as much as I can).

I'm also trying to plan out the rest of my week. So here's what I've come up with. Leave early on Wednesday, and get in a full day of riding and head to Cleveland to check out that Tiki bar Thursday night. Then from Cleveland to Burwell for the run.

It's time to head down to the Boardwalk and the piers. You can wait for the Casino shuttle bus, or they have a local service shuttle bus "The Jinty". It's $2.25 a ride, and will take you to all those important places in AC. Since it's here and the shuttle is not, I hop on. The driver drops me off at the Caesar's Casino. Which happens to be in the middle of the Boardwalk.

The Boardwalk looks like it goes on forever, it's still early and quite.

The other direction, and yes, it seems to go on forever this way as well.

I took this while on the shuttle bus, I'm actually surprised it came out so well. If you zoom in on the picture, you'll get the history on how Atlantic City was formed.

I decide to walk east, at least that way I know where it ends. Atlantic City is just like any other sea side resort, just way bigger, and with Casino's.

Yes, the boardwalk is actually all wood.

The beach doesn't disappoint, and it goes the length of the Boardwalk and a lot further.

A nice view of  a stretch of the Boardwalk. The 90's style building is one of Trump's closed Casino's.

I can't say they are lying about what's inside. But being on a diet, I must stay away. That part is easy, as they are not open yet.

Here's one for all those cat lovers out there (me included).

The feral cats live under the Boardwalk, so with all the sun and it being rather warm, I could only see the one.

That is a cat there, trust me!

Lot's of room if you want to build a new Casino here. Or just buy a closed up one.

Lot's of small business's selling you lot's of stuff you don't really need.

There's still lot's of older architecture from early last century. Which is nice to see. The diving horse is long gone though.

Nothing says "Seaside resort town" than a pier amusement park, though not quite the Santa Monica pier. I'm not sure if they are installing the Ferris wheel, or taking it down.

All you wanted to know about Salt water taffy. It says it was invented in Atlantic City in the late 1800's. I always thought it was invented in England, but I could be mixing that up with "Rock Candy".

Since there are Casino's along the Boardwalk, I play a few.

I stopped into the Showboat, but they were missing something.

                                      Like the Casino!

Now I have to start the walk back.

Anyone looking for tacky Trump souvenirs, the sale is still going on. To bad I'm on the bike, otherwise, they'd make great wedding gifts.

It's getting warm, so I cut through some of the Casino's to keep cool. Of course I have to play some slots.

Hail Caesar! That's because I put $40 and walked away with $100. But I did lose at a few other Casinos. So, I'm up a few bucks anyway.

It's still early, so I'm debating on whether to actually eat here. Well time to go online and check out the reviews. After checking out the reviews, they are either really good or not so good. Anyway, I'll decide later. My feet are killing me from all the walking, so back to the hotel to relax, update the blog, charge the phone, as I have no extra batteries for the newish phone.

I head back out around 3 pm. Back to Caesar's, because that's where the free shuttle bus drops you off. I check out the Outlet Mall. Which by the way is Tangers, so not so surprisingly, I find nothing. Though Fossil has so good deals on watches, but nothing I fancied.

Time of a late lunch, and I'm back to my old favorite, can you guess it?

That's right, the old Bacon, chicken, ranch salad from McD's. It's been working pretty good with the diet. After that I head back out on the Boardwalk. With the sun in a different place,  there was some shade, and a gentle breeze from the ocean, it was actually cooler than this morning.

Actually walking west on the Boardwalk is much like walking east. The same kind of touristy shops and food shacks. I make it as far as the Tropicana. Nice Casino, a little dated, but in a good way. From here I start to head back, as I can feel blister forming on one of my toes. I hit Caesar's to catch the shuttle bus home. The first one is full, and the second one decides to take a break. So I head over to Bally's, as it's the first stop for the shuttle bus, and I have less of a chance getting a full bus again.

It works out well, and when I get back to Harrah's, I make one last bet.
$20 on red, on the automated roulette table. I win, so hopefully some good luck driving tomorrow. I'll be getting an early start, hopefully I'll be on the road by 6 am.

Todays mileage  none.
